Absolutely. British Shorthairs are independent by nature, so they often prefer to be in the same room as you without demanding physical contact. It’s efficient for both sides-you get company without interruption, and they get to observe or nap nearby on their own terms. For an entrepreneur like me, that’s a solid trade-off: low-maintenance companionship that doesn’t eat into your workflow.

Yeah, totally. I've had days where my British Shorthair will just park himself on the rug next to my desk, or lounge on the sofa arm while I'm watching TV, and never once try to climb into my lap. It's like he wants the vibe of company without the full contact commitment. If you're someone who values personal space but still likes having a furry presence around, that independent streak can actually be a huge plus. You could try offering a cozy bed or blanket close to where you usually sit, and just see if he gravitates there on his own.
