Turning back the clock to when Sphynx cats first gained popularity among European aristocrats, their lack of fur made them reliant on human ingenuity for warmth, much like the heated stone floors of ancient bathhouses. You'll want to recreate that cozy environment by strategically placing heated beds or self-warming mats near draft-free spots, since these cats historically thrived in the balmy climates of their Mexican origins. I'd also recommend a few soft sweaters or fleece blankets around your apartment, as Sphynx owners in colder regions have done since the 1960s to mimic the insulating comfort their wild ancestors never needed.

Keeping a Sphynx warm in a drafty place means you have to get creative with their wardrobe, not just the thermostat. I'd grab a few soft, fleece sweaters or even a little hoodie-they look ridiculous but the cat will actually thank you for it. Also, invest in a heated cat bed or throw a microwavable heat pad under their favorite blanket, since those bare bodies lose heat faster than a leaky radiator.

Layer up your Sphynx with a cozy fleece sweater or a soft cotton onesie-they actually love wearing them and it keeps their body heat trapped. I’d also set up a warm nook near a sunny window or under a desk lamp with a low-watt bulb, since they naturally gravitate toward heat sources like sunbeams or even your laptop.

Draft-proof the spots where your cat likes to hang out first, then add a few low-wattage heated pet pads around the apartment so they can choose their own warm zone. Sweaters help, but they’re more of a backup-my Sphynx mostly just curls up on top of a laptop charger or under a throw blanket near the baseboard heater.

Start by draping a soft blanket over your favorite chair or couch - Sphynx cats are expert burrowers and will happily tunnel under it the moment you get up. I also keep a low-powered space heater in the corner where my Sphynx likes to nap, just pointed at a spot on the floor, and she spends half the day sprawled there like a little sunbathing alien. A cozy cat cave or igloo bed works wonders too, since it traps their own body heat and makes them feel safe from drafts.
