Yes, they tend to have quick, intense play sessions followed by long naps. Their energy comes in short spurts, so a few minutes of chasing a wand toy or batting a ball is usually enough before they're ready to lounge again.

Back when I started with cats, folks didn't even think of Exotics as having much get-up-and-go, but they sure fooled me. My old boy would tear around the living room for maybe ten minutes, chasing a crumpled piece of paper like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, then just flop over and nap on the rug. They've got that burst of energy, but they're not marathon players - they'd rather save their steam for a good cuddle session afterwards.

Targeting busy professionals or families who want a cat with a bit of spunk but not a high-maintenance energy bomb, the Exotic Shorthair is the perfect 'snack-sized' player. You’ll see them go absolutely wild for a feather wand for about 7-10 minutes, then they’ll dramatically flop onto their back as if the fun tax has been fully paid. It’s a very strategic marketing move by the cat-peak entertainment in a small time slot, then back to being a plush sofa ornament.
