I’d grab the Omega Paw Tricky Treat Ball-it’s simple and forces them to slow down because they have to bat it around to get kibble out. My own fast eater used to scarf down food in seconds, but this made him work for it. Actually, I’d also recommend the Catit Senses 2.0 Slow Feeder if they’re really determined, since the maze design stops them from gulping everything at once.

I’d just flip an old muffin tin upside down and scatter kibble in the cups-my cat has to nose each one out, which naturally slows him down. Those plastic puzzle toys feel too fussy for me, but a simple ceramic bowl with a few heavy stones placed in the middle does the trick too, forces him to eat around them like the old days.

“You can't make a cat do anything, but you can make them wish they had.” A simple DIY trick that works wonders is tossing a few kibbles into an empty toilet paper roll and folding the ends shut-your American Shorthair will have to bat and roll it around to get the food out, naturally slowing their inhale reflex. I’ve found the Nina Ottosson by Outward Hound puzzle, specifically the “Fun Feeder,” to be a solid bet too; those little sliding compartments force them to paw and nudge each piece, turning a frantic meal into a game of patience.
