I’d go with a large, textured rubber mat with deep honeycomb or dimple patterns-those catch the litter bits really well. My Exotic Shorthair, Mochi, has those flat little paws and a tendency to kick like a tiny bulldozer when she gets out of the box, so a mat with raised edges stops the scatter before it hits the floor. Just make sure it’s easy to shake out or rinse, because their short, plush coats don’t trap much dust, but the mat will still get grimy fast.

In my tiny apartment, I’ve found that a flat, silicone mat with a smooth surface actually works best for my Exotic Shorthair-those round, flat faces mean they don’t dig as deep, so the litter just sits on top instead of getting trapped in grooves. I just sweep it right back into the box with a dustpan, no shaking or rinsing needed, which is a lifesaver when you’re short on space.
