A predictable daily schedule works best - feeding, playtime, and cuddles at the same times every day. I set up a cozy window perch with a soft blanket so my Ragdoll can watch birds and sunbathe while I'm out, and leave a few puzzle toys stuffed with treats to keep her busy. She learned quickly that I always come back, and that routine made her totally chill about alone time.

Leaving a radio or TV on low volume does more for them than any fancy toy ever will. I've watched my own Ragdoll settle right down with some background noise, while those expensive puzzle gadgets just end up ignored under the couch. The key is making the environment feel lived-in, not sterile like a waiting room.

Establishing a consistent pre-departure ritual, like a brief play session followed by a treat-dispensing toy, signals that alone time is predictable and safe. This logical sequence reduces anxiety because the cat learns to associate your leaving with a positive reward, not abandonment. In practice, my Ragdoll settles within minutes after this routine, proving that structure beats chaos for their comfort.

Rotating their enrichment stations before you leave keeps things fresh - I'll move a cardboard box to a new spot or swap out the toys near their favorite lounging area. My Ragdoll actually prefers a predictable environment where nothing scary changes, so I keep the same background noise playing and leave a worn t-shirt on the couch for scent comfort.
