That big old cat is claiming the territory, plain and simple. Doorways are the main paths in the house, and by sleeping right across one, he’s making sure he knows who’s coming and going. It’s his way of saying he’s the boss of that space and keeping an eye on the whole household without having to move much.

Doorways create a natural bottleneck for air currents, and your Maine Coon is positioning himself at the perfect spot to catch every draft and scent from the rest of the house. He's essentially creating a sensory hub, monitoring the entire territory's airflow without lifting a paw. It's not about guarding-it's about maximizing comfort and information intake with minimal effort.

You've got a furry little traffic controller in your house, plain and simple. I've had cats do this for years, and it always feels like they're running their own personal checkpoint-they block the path, then look at you like you're the one being unreasonable. It's part instinct to guard the main routes, sure, but honestly, I think it's also just prime real estate for catching a cool draft from one room while staying cozy in the other. Plus, it gives them the perfect excuse to trip you up for extra attention-mine used to stretch out like a furry speed bump, and I swear he smirked every time I had to step over him.
