Yes, absolutely. I've had a Russian Blue for years, and they do well with calm, gentle kids as long as they have places to retreat. My cat loves the quiet nooks we set up with soft beds and high shelves. The key is making sure the children respect the cat's space and don't chase or grab her. If the home has those hiding spots and the kids are taught to be quiet and patient, it works great.

I've found that my own Russian Blue thrived in exactly that setup with my niece and nephew visiting often. They're naturally reserved cats, so the hiding nooks gave her confidence to come out on her own terms. I made sure the kids knew never to follow her into those spots, and she eventually started seeking them out for chin scratches. It's all about the cat feeling in control of the interaction.

From personal experience, I'd say the hiding nooks are the absolute lifesaver here. My Russian Blue, Misha, would vanish into her little cave bed under the coffee table whenever my friend's preschooler visited, and that sense of safety made her much more relaxed when she did choose to come out. I'd just caution that even gentle kids can get excited and forget boundaries, so I always kept a few treats handy to redirect if they started reaching into her space.

Gentle children and quiet nooks are the perfect combination. My own Russian Blue, Luna, actually sought out my nephew for naps once she knew his voice meant soft pats, not grabs. The hiding spots let her recharge, but the real trick is giving the cat a high perch too-mine loved watching the kids from atop a bookshelf before deigning to join them.
