People absolutely misjudge them. That round face and those folded ears give off this calm, almost somber vibe, but many Scottish Folds are surprisingly playful and vocal. I've seen owners shocked when their supposedly "quiet" cat starts demanding attention with loud meows or zooming around the house.

I've watched friends assume my Scottish Fold would be a lap cat because of that round, owl-like face, only to get a reality check when she starts chirping and following them around for play. Their appearance suggests a reserved, almost melancholy temperament, but in reality they're often curious, mischievous, and quite demanding when they want attention.

That round, owl-like expression sets up an expectation of a calm, contemplative cat, but in my experience the personality often contradicts the face entirely. A friend's Scottish Fold, for instance, looks perpetually serene but is actually the house troublemaker, knocking things off shelves and demanding interactive play sessions at 6 AM. The soft, sleepy eyes hide a cat that's far more energetic and assertive than their placid appearance suggests.

Visiting a breeder, I watched a family coo over a kitten's round, owlish face and assume she'd be a docile, quiet companion, only to see her scale a curtain seconds later. That deceptive appearance often leads to mismatched expectations, where new owners are unprepared for the breed's energetic, curious, and sometimes stubborn nature.
