Yes, they absolutely do. Balinese cats are highly active and playful well into adulthood, often retaining that kitten-like energy for 3-5 years or more. British Shorthairs tend to mellow out by 2-3 years old, while a Balinese might still be zipping around at 8. It's a real commitment if you want a calm lap cat.

From my experience with both breeds, Balinese cats definitely hold onto that kitten energy for years longer. I’d caution anyone thinking about a Balinese to prepare for high activity levels well past the typical kitten stage. British Shorthairs settle into a relaxed routine by age two, while a Balinese might still be racing around at five or six. It’s not a bad thing, but it’s a big difference if you prefer a calm home.

Based on years of fostering both breeds, I’ve seen Balinese cats maintain that playful, almost manic energy well into their senior years, often up to age 10 or beyond, whereas British Shorthairs typically slow down significantly around age 3. One of my Balinese boys still does wall-climbing sprints at age nine, while my British Shorthair was perfectly content napping by age two. That extra spark isn’t just about zoomies, it means you need to plan for interactive play sessions for many more years.
