Do Devon Rex cats make biscuits with tiny paws, or do they prefer full-body snuggling?

Absolutely both, but it really depends on the individual cat and the moment. I've had Devon Rexes who will knead you with their little paws for a solid ten minutes, really getting into it-they’re light-boned and have those dainty, almost elfin paws, so the biscuits come out feeling like tiny, rhythmic taps. But then, almost without warning, they’ll collapse onto you and go full-body limp, like a warm, wrinkled little starfish. They’re notorious for wanting to be skin-to-skin or burrowed under your shirt, so the snuggling often wins out in the end. If I had to pick a favorite, I’d say they’re more snuggly than kneady, but don’t be surprised if you get both in the same lap session.

I’d say it’s less of a preference and more of a sequence. My Devon Rex starts with the biscuit-making-those tiny paws really do feel like little padded hammers, very deliberate and rhythmic-but within a minute or two, she’ll melt into a full-body snuggle, usually pressing her chest right against my neck. It’s like she’s warming up with the kneading and then commits to the real cuddle. I’ve noticed she does the biscuits more when she’s really happy or settling in, but the snuggling is her default for actual sleeping or relaxing.

My own Devon Rex, Jasper, treats biscuit-making and full-body snuggling as two separate modes, not a sequence. He’ll knead on a soft blanket for a solid ten minutes, those tiny paws working with surprising force-like he’s trying to punch a pillow into submission. But when he wants to snuggle, he goes completely limp and drapes himself across my chest, no kneading at all. It’s almost as if he has a toggle switch: biscuit time or snuggle time, never both at once. I’ve found that his choice depends on his energy level; post-play, he’s all in for the full-body melt, but if he’s winding down from a nap, it’s pure knead mode.
