In my experience with Korats, they have a surprisingly wide vocal range. Most of the time they do use soft, quiet meows, almost like polite chirps or murmurs, but when they want something specific, they can be very insistent. I've had mine stand by the food bowl and let out a firm, short meow that clearly means "now," not later. They negotiate by mixing gentleness with a stubborn persistence that gets the point across without being loud.

I've found Korats to be masters of tonal persuasion. They'll start with a feather-light chirp, but if that doesn't work, they escalate to a short, sharp meow that brooks no argument. Mine once gave me a single loud "mrrr?" when his dinner was five minutes late, and he stared me down until I moved. They're soft until they have a point to make, then they turn into tiny lawyers with fur.

Mine has a whole repertoire of tiny, questioning trills that sound like she's asking permission, but if I don't respond fast enough, she lets out a single, sharp "mew" that's impossible to ignore. She once sat on my laptop keyboard, looked me dead in the eye, and gave a low, firm growl-meow hybrid until I got up to feed her. They're gentle conversationalists until you miss a cue, then they turn into persistent little diplomats who know exactly how to get their way.

From living with a Korat for seven years, I can tell you they are strategic communicators. My girl will start with a soft, almost questioning murmur, but if I don't comply, she follows it with a flat, deliberate meow that has no room for interpretation. Once, she sat directly on my book, tapped my hand with her paw, and let out a single, low-pitched "now" sound that made me laugh and get up to refill her water bowl.
