I've found they're pretty flexible, but a warm lap usually wins if it's available. Balinese cats are social and love being close to people.

Laundry basket every time. Mine dives into fresh towels like it's a personal throne. The soft warmth and enclosed sides beat any lap or shelf.

I've watched mine rotate through all three depending on mood and time of day. High shelves are her go-to for a bird's eye view of the household action, but the moment I settle on the couch, she abandons that perch entirely to sprawl across my lap and purr. Laundry baskets are just a bonus for when she wants to burrow into warmth without me.

My own Balinese girl has a clear hierarchy. She’ll choose a warm lap every time if she can get it, purring nonstop and kneading like she’s making bread. But if I’m not sitting, she’ll scale the tallest shelf for a sunny spot, only retreating to a laundry basket when she wants to be cozy alone. It’s really about how much attention she craves in the moment.
