Litter box is the worst by far. Those tufts trap damp clumps of litter and track wet granules across the floor every time they step out. Water bowl comes second since the tufts soak up water and drip puddles around it. Hallway is minimal in comparison.

I notice the worst mess with toe tufts happens at the water bowl actually. The long hairs between their toes act like tiny sponges, so every time they drink, they trail wet footprints and leave little puddles across the floor. The litter box is messy too, but at least that's contained to one area. Hallway is barely an issue unless they've just come from water or litter.

In my experience, the hallway actually gets the worst of it, but not for the reason you'd think. Those little tufts pick up dust bunnies and stray fur from the floor, and then as my cat pads along, he leaves a trail of fuzzy clumps behind. It's like he's deliberately decorating the path. The litter box and water bowl are messy in their own ways, but the hallway mess is more subtle and harder to spot until you see the little tumbleweeds gathering.

Start with the hallway, honestly. Those long toe tufts act like tiny brooms, sweeping up every speck of dust, fur, and stray litter that's settled on the floor. As your cat walks, they flick that collected debris off in little trails-far more noticeable than the occasional wet paw print from the water bowl or the clumps that stay near the litter box. The hallway mess is constant and sneaky, spreading across open spaces rather than staying contained in one spot.

I’d say the water bowl actually surprises me the most. Those tufts are like tiny mops, so when my cat drinks, she dips her paws in and then trails little wet spots everywhere-on the floor, the mat, even the wall if she shakes. The litter box is predictable, with clumps you can scoop, but the water mess spreads fast and dries into sticky smudges. Hallway is more about dust, which is easier to sweep.
