I've found they're pretty flexible, but a warm lap usually wins if it's available. Balinese cats are social and love being close to people.

Laundry basket every time. Mine dives into fresh towels like it's a personal throne. The soft warmth and enclosed sides beat any lap or shelf.

I've watched mine rotate through all three depending on mood and time of day. High shelves are her go-to for a bird's eye view of the household action, but the moment I settle on the couch, she abandons that perch entirely to sprawl across my lap and purr. Laundry baskets are just a bonus for when she wants to burrow into warmth without me.

My own Balinese girl has a clear hierarchy. She’ll choose a warm lap every time if she can get it, purring nonstop and kneading like she’s making bread. But if I’m not sitting, she’ll scale the tallest shelf for a sunny spot, only retreating to a laundry basket when she wants to be cozy alone. It’s really about how much attention she craves in the moment.

Depends entirely on the ambient temperature and the room's lighting. A Balinese coat is single-layered, so they're always hunting for warmth, but they also despise drafts. A high shelf near a sunny window is prime real estate in the morning. But once the sun shifts, that spot loses its appeal, and they'll abandon it for the heat of a laptop or a lap. The laundry basket is strictly a secondary option-only when the other two aren't available and the clothes are fresh out of the dryer.

In my experience with my Balinese, it really comes down to the season and her mood. During colder months, she’s glued to my lap the moment I sit down-the warmth and rhythmic breathing are irresistible to her. But when summer hits, she prefers the highest shelf in the living room, where the ceiling fan’s breeze reaches her and she can survey her kingdom from above. Laundry baskets are only for when she wants to feel hidden; she’ll dive into a pile of clean clothes if I’m too busy to offer lap time.
