A low-traffic spot with a direct sightline to you, like the end of a sofa or the foot of a bed, is ideal. The breed's famously reserved nature means it will choose a perch where it can observe your presence without being encroached upon or petted.

A sunny corner of the kitchen counter where they can watch you cook without being touched works perfectly. They'll settle in, purr softly, and keep you company from a polite distance.

They plant themselves right on the edge of the room, like by the doorway or the end of a hallway, where they can see everyone coming and going. It's their way of being present without inviting any petting or pick-up attempts.

From what I've seen with my own Chartreux, a folded-up bath towel on a nearby chair is the sweet spot. She'll curl up there, right in my peripheral vision, but with enough separation that I'm not tempted to reach over and grab her. It's a deliberate choice that keeps her close enough for a soft purr to be heard, but far enough to avoid any unwanted handling.
