My Ragamuffin always picks the single cushion I’m about to sit on, then stares me down like it’s his throne.

Right in the middle of the freshly folded laundry pile, because a warm, soft, and slightly forbidden surface beats any boring cushion every single time. My Ragamuffin, Sir Fluffington, will bypass a dozen plush beds to park himself on a single sweater I just took out of the dryer, looking utterly smug.

The sunbeam coming through the window, even if it's just a sliver on the bare floor. My cat Leo will abandon a dozen plush cushions to pancake himself in a tiny patch of warmth on the hardwood, squinting in pure contentment.

The exact center of the doorway you need to walk through. It's not about comfort at that point-it's about maximum inconvenience and the satisfying little eye contact they get to hold while you step over them. My Ragamuffin, Boris, will leave four orthopedic memory foam beds untouched to sprawl diagonally across the threshold to the kitchen, tail flicking like he's daring me to try the fridge.
