For a large gentle cat focused on comfort, a cat tree around 4 to 5 feet tall works best. This height gives a good vantage point without demanding strenuous climbing, and it accommodates oversized perches or beds that suit their size. Taller models often have unstable bases or narrow platforms that are less cozy.

I would go with a tree that's about 3 to 4 feet tall with a wide, plush top perch and a low, roomy cubby. The key is stability and soft surfaces, not height. My own Maine Coon prefers a sturdy 3-foot platform where he can lounge without worrying about wobbling, and he rarely climbs higher than that.

A 2-to-3-foot tree with a broad, padded top platform and a low, enclosed cave works perfectly. My own big Ragdoll, Oliver, spends his days sprawled on a short, wide perch near the window, never bothering with anything taller. The base needs to be heavy and non-tippy, with a thick, washable cushion for lounging, not climbing.

A sturdy, low-profile tree of 2.5 to 3 feet with a broad, padded top platform is ideal. I've seen my friend's gentle Maine Coon thrive on a short, wide perch where he can sprawl without fear of tipping. Focus on a heavy base and a deep, washable cushion - tall trees encourage climbing, not lounging.

Three feet with a wide, memory-foam top perch is plenty. My own big tabby, Jasper, barely uses the upper levels on taller trees - he just wants a stable, cushioned spot to nap without feeling the wobble. Skip the rope-wrapped poles and look for a thick, machine-washable pad on a sturdy base.
