I went through three curtain rods before I figured this out. A tall cat tree with multiple perches and a sisal-wrapped post placed right next to the window completely redirected my Aby's climbing instinct. He'd rather survey the neighborhood from that vantage point than balance on a flimsy rod.

A vertical wall-mounted cat shelf system with a hammock and a rope ladder works wonders. My Aby stopped eyeing the curtain rods once she had a dedicated climbing route near the window. The key is giving her an acceptable vertical challenge she can actually claim.

Installing a ceiling-to-floor tension pole with multiple adjustable platforms and a dangling toy at the top completely solved this for me. My Aby now has her own vertical territory that feels sturdy and rewarding, so the curtain rods lost their appeal entirely. She loves climbing up to swat at the toy and then surveying the room from her perch.
