That's one of the most endearing traits of the Ragdoll breed, and it really does feel like having a soft, furry little shadow, doesn't it? The reason goes back to their original breeding. Ragdolls were selectively developed to be extremely people-oriented, with a calm, trusting, and almost dog-like devotion to their humans. Unlike many independent cat breeds, a Ragdoll's primary instinct is to be in your presence. They don't follow you out of anxiety or neediness, but out of a genuine, quiet interest in whatever you're doing. You are their source of comfort, warmth, and security, so they naturally want to be where you are.

Think of it less as "security guarding" and more as "quiet companionship." They aren't assessing threats; they're simply choosing to share your space. When you're in the kitchen, they're on the mat. When you're reading, they're on the arm of the chair. When you go to the bathroom, they're on the bath mat. It's their way of saying, "I'm part of your life, and I want to be included." It's a beautiful, gentle habit that speaks to the deep bond they form. Just be prepared to have a polite, fluffy escort for every trip you make.
