The WhatsApp messenger will no longer be supported on iPhones running iOS 15 or earlier versions.
Starting May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will cease to function on millions of iPhones worldwide, according to the MacRumors portal.
Developers have announced that the app will require iPhone models running iOS 15.1 or later for full functionality. Even the base version of iOS 15 will not be supported. As a result, WhatsApp will be discontinued on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which were last updated to iOS 12.5.7.
It was noted that existing accounts can still be used on unsupported devices; however, these accounts will no longer receive updates with new features or security patches, increasing the risk of hacking.
Additionally, after May 5, 2025, it will not be possible to register for WhatsApp on unsupported iPhones. If a user resets their device, deletes the app, or verifies their phone number on another device, they will lose access to their accounts on older gadgets.
Currently, WhatsApp operates on smartphones running Android 5.0, released in 2014, or newer. However, to use WhatsApp on iPhones, iOS 15, released in 2021, is required.
