My Mochi never misses a chance to voice her opinion during dinner prep. Even when I try to sneak ingredients from the fridge, she's right there, meowing about the chopping board sounds or the smell of garlic. It's less about being quiet and more about managing the volume - she'll tone it down if I give her a treat to lick, but the commentary never fully stops.

I've never had a silent dinner prep with my girl Suki. She's particularly vocal about the can opener and any crinkling of plastic bags. The only time she's briefly quiet is if I give her a small piece of chicken to occupy her, but even then she'll pause mid-chew to chirp at me.

Expecting silence during meal preparation is a recipe for disappointment. I've learned that the commentary is essentially hardwired; my cat Leo treats the kitchen like his personal stage. He'll start with low grumbles the moment I pull out a cutting board and escalate to full operatic meows if I dare to chop an onion. The only time he's briefly distracted is when I drop a stray piece of cheese, but even then, he chews and mutters.

Not a chance, and I've tested this extensively with my boy Jasper. He waits until I'm elbow-deep in flour or holding a hot pan, then unleashes his most urgent meow as if the kitchen is on fire. The commentary is definitely built-in, but I've noticed it's less about food and more about making sure I acknowledge his existence every thirty seconds. If I want peace, I prep ingredients before he wakes up from his nap.
