Setting up a window hammock or a perch by a bird feeder can turn your absence into hours of entertainment for them. I’d also scatter some puzzle feeders around the house before I leave, so they have to work for their treats like a little treasure hunt.

Interactive food dispensers on timers might sound good, but most Maine Coons figure them out in a day and get bored. I’d focus on rotating a few different puzzle toys that actually challenge them mentally, not just a treat ball that rolls around. Leave a cardboard box maze or a paper bag tunnel setup they can explore and destroy-way more engaging than those overpriced electronic gadgets.

A strategically placed bird feeder outside a low window turns your home into a live nature documentary, and a Maine Coon will happily binge-watch the daily drama of squirrels and sparrows for hours. I also set up a cardboard castle with multiple levels and crinkly paper hidden inside-it’s less about flashy toys and more about creating a little kingdom for them to patrol and nap in like a true feline artist.

Rotating their toys is a waste of time, they'll just ignore them anyway. What actually works is leaving a few cardboard boxes with different holes cut into them and tossing some dry kibble inside - it forces them to work for food and keeps their hunting instincts engaged for longer than any store-bought gadget.

Leaving a few cardboard boxes with different holes cut into them and tossing some dry kibble inside keeps them busy for a good while, since they have to work for their food like little hunters. I also hide treats in different spots around the house before I leave, so they can go on a scavenger hunt and feel like they're patrolling their territory.
