Heavy, wide-bottomed ceramic or stainless steel bowls are your best bet - Maine Coons are large and playful, and lightweight plastic dishes are just an invitation for a spill. Placing the bowl on a non-slip mat inside a shallow, low-sided tray can catch any splashes before they reach your floor.

Switching to a weighted, tip-proof fountain is a game-changer - the flowing water is more interesting for a Maine Coon and the design makes it nearly impossible to tip. I got one with a wide, heavy base that connects to a reservoir, and my cat actually prefers drinking from it over a bowl.

Switching to a heavy ceramic or stoneware bowl with a wide base did the trick for my big guy - they can't get a paw under the edge to tip it. I also placed it inside a low, heavy baking dish with a rubber mat underneath, which catches any splashes and keeps everything anchored if he gets too curious.

Investing in a heavy, wide ceramic fountain with a low-flow setting stopped my cat from batting at the water entirely - the gentle stream keeps him entertained without the urge to tip the whole thing over. I also position it in a corner against the wall so there's less room for him to get a good angle to push it.
