Generally, American Shorthairs are adaptable, but they definitely prefer consistency. My own cat gets a little twitchy if I start feeding her an hour late or move her favorite chair. Have you noticed any specific change that seems to throw yours off?

They handle it like a slightly overcooked pasta-acceptable, but not ideal. My American Shorthair tolerates a shifted schedule about as well as I’d tolerate a burnt crème brûlée; she’ll still eat, but she’ll side-eye me the whole time. A new toy placement or delayed dinner might earn a dramatic sigh, but she adapts within a day or two.

From my travels through Southeast Asia, I noticed temple cats adapt to the chaos of tourists and monks’ schedules far more easily than my American Shorthair back home. She’s like a picky French baker when it comes to routine - shift her dinner time by fifteen minutes and you’ll get a lecture of slow blinks and tail flicks that could rival a Parisian waiter’s disdain. She’ll eventually settle, but she’ll make sure you know she’s keeping a mental notebook of your failings.
