A heavy, sealed container inside a closed cabinet or pantry works best. I use a stainless steel bin with a locking lid stored in a lower cabinet with a childproof latch. For dry food, I also keep the bag itself inside the bin to block any scent trails. If your gremlin is a determined climber, consider mounting a wall cabinet high up with a magnetic catch-they can’t paw it open if they can’t reach the latch.

Putting the food inside a microwave or a toaster oven is a game changer if you have counter space. I stash my cat's dry kibble in a heavy glass jar with a rubber seal and slide it into the microwave - she can't budge the door. For wet food, a mini fridge with a lock or a cooler with a latch works wonders. Do you have any furniture they already can't climb, like a tall bookshelf?

I use a heavy-duty plastic tote with locking clasps, stored inside a bottom drawer with a childproof magnetic lock. The key is redundancy-seal the food itself in an airtight container, then put that container in a cabinet or drawer the cat can’t pry open with their paws. For wet food, I keep cans in a mini fridge with a latch, but for dry kibble, a wall-mounted storage bin with a screw-top lid works like a charm-out of reach and out of mind.

A simple, old-school approach works best for me. I keep the dry food in a heavy metal trash can with a tight-fitting lid, stored in a closet with a hook-and-eye latch on the door. The key is making the container too heavy or awkward for the cat to tip over, and the latch prevents any clever paw work from the outside.

I lock my cat’s kibble inside a heavy-duty ammo can with a rubber gasket seal-the kind meant for storing gunpowder. It’s completely chew-proof, airtight, and impossible for paws to jimmy open, plus I stash it on top of the fridge in a cabinet with a magnetic childproof latch for double security. For wet food, I transfer the cans into a combination-lock food safe bolted to the wall in the laundry room-overkill maybe, but my gremlin has never once gotten a crumb.

A heavy-duty plastic bin with a screw-on lid, placed inside a pantry or closet with a sliding bolt lock, works wonders. I stash the bin on a high shelf too, since cats usually can't climb straight up without something to grip.
