Absolutely! I live for those quick burst play sessions with my Exotic Shorthair - they're actually perfect for this breed. Their laid-back, cuddly nature means they get just as much joy from a 5-minute feather wand chase as a long hunt, and it keeps them from getting overstimulated or bored. I've found that a few short, high-energy playtimes sprinkled throughout the day, each ending with a treat or a snuggle, really tap into their natural hunting instincts without wearing them out. It's like they're saying "okay, that was fun, now let's nap on your lap" - and honestly, that rhythm makes both of us happier.

Short play sessions are actually ideal for Exotic Shorthairs - they get tired fast with those flat faces and love a quick burst of fun. My own guy prefers chasing a laser pointer for 3-4 minutes and then just flops over for belly rubs. As long as you fit in a few of these mini-playtimes per day, they stay happy and entertained.

Nobody seems to mention that short play sessions might actually be more beneficial than long ones for this breed because of their low stamina and tendency to overheat. I've seen plenty of owners try to force a 20-minute playtime, and the cat just ends up panting or hiding under the couch. My Exotic Shorthair responds way better to 2-3 minute bursts with a wand toy, then he's done - it mimics how they'd naturally hunt small prey in short sprints rather than marathon chases.

Short bursts of play match their natural energy cycle perfectly - my Exotic Shorthair gets way more out of three 5-minute sessions than one long one. He focuses intensely on a crinkle ball or feather toy for a few minutes, then wanders off to groom or nap, and that's totally fine. As long as you're engaging them a few times daily with those quick, fun interactions, they stay happy and stimulated without getting overwhelmed.
