I always make sure to have a good play session about 30 minutes before bed - chasing a wand toy or a laser pointer gets all that pent-up energy out, and then I follow it up with a small treat or a little bit of wet food. Don't you find your cat gets that sleepy, satisfied look after a good meal? After that, I dim the lights and do a gentle brushing session, which really calms my kitty down, and then he just curls up next to me on the couch while I read for a few minutes before we head to bed. What does your cat usually do at night - are they a wild one or pretty chill?

A consistent 10-minute cuddle and chin scratch session on the couch works wonders for my cat - she starts purring like a tiny motor and her eyes get all heavy. I always pair that with a quiet, dimly lit environment and a soft blanket she loves kneading, and she's usually out cold within 15 minutes without any zoomies at 2 AM.

Establishing a predictable sequence of low-key activities about an hour before lights out really helps my cat wind down. I start by closing the curtains to signal the end of active play, then I do a slow, focused grooming session with a soft brush, which she absolutely melts into. Following that, I offer a small, warm portion of her nightly meal, and she knows to head to her favorite corner of the bed without any fuss.
