Flip the usual approach - instead of asking about health papers, ask the seller to describe the cat’s most annoying daily habit. If they can’t think of one, they haven’t spent enough time with it. Also, ask what the cat does when it’s bored - a creative answer shows they know its personality, not just its paperwork.

Start with the cat's current daily routine - what time does it eat, does it sleep through the night, and how does it handle being alone for 8-9 hours while you're at work. City apartments are small, so also ask if the cat has ever clawed furniture or curtains, and how it reacts to loud noises like sirens or neighbors slamming doors.

Ask the seller point-blank what the cat’s worst personality flaw is - if they say “nothing,” they’re lying or don’t know the cat. I’d also want to know how it reacts to strangers walking into its space, because I don’t need a cat that hides under the bed for three days when my friend drops by unannounced.

Ask the owner to show you exactly where the cat eats and sleeps, and how it reacts to being picked up and held for more than a few seconds. That will tell you if the cat is comfortable with human handling or will squirm away.
