Put it right next to where they already scratch - like the corner of the couch or the edge of the rug. Cats are lazy, so make it easy. Also, near their favorite nap spot works, since they stretch and scratch right after waking up. Mine just ignores anything tucked in a corner she never visits.

I’d stick it right by a window or near their favorite lounging spot-mine spends half the day watching birds, so placing the post there turned it into a scratching hub. Pair it with a dangling toy from a mount, like a laser pointer or feather, to make it irresistible; my Fold went nuts for the novelty and now uses it daily.
