Mount them near sunny windows or above radiators, ideally on walls that get direct afternoon light. Cornish Rex cats love basking in warmth, so a shelf at eye level or higher by a south-facing window lets them climb high while soaking up heat. Avoid drafty spots or cold walls, and consider a heated cat bed on a top shelf for extra comfort.

Position them directly above heat registers or baseboard heaters, with a thermal pad or fleece blanket on the shelf surface. I have two shelves for my Cornish Rex: one angled to catch morning sun from an east window, the other mounted just above a radiator with a low-wattage heating mat underneath a washable cover. This way he can perch high to survey the room while staying toasty. Just ensure the shelf is at least 6 inches above the heat source to prevent overheating.

Stick shelves in the warmest upper corners of rooms that have heat sources below. I mounted one of mine directly over a floor vent in the living room, and placed a soft, washable fleece pad on it so my Cornish Rex can stretch out and absorb the rising warmth while keeping his high vantage point. Just make sure the shelf is securely anchored and positioned so he can jump up without knocking into anything.
