Soft fleece with no zippers or buttons feels like a gentle hug rather than a cage, and that’s what wins a Sphynx’s heart. I’ve found that a simple sweater you can slip over their head without wrestling their paws works like poetry in motion, especially if you warm it on the radiator first so it smells like home.

Snug-fitting cotton t-shirts with wide neck openings slide on with zero fuss, and that makes all the difference for a cat that hates being wrestled into things. I’ve noticed a simple tube-style sweater, no sleeves or leg holes, works like magic because it’s just a cozy tube they can back into while you hold it open, and they feel instantly warm without any trapped paws.

A soft, open-front sweater that doesn't require pulling over the head has always been the simplest path to acceptance, as it respects a cat's instinct to avoid anything that feels like restraint. I've seen that when you let them step into a garment rather than forcing it over their face, they interpret it as a natural extension of the couch blanket rather than a costume.

Start with a fleece vest that opens fully down the chest with velcro. My own Sphynx accepted that within hours because there’s no head-pulling or leg-wrangling involved - you just wrap it around them and fasten it. I’ve always stuck with that style because it mimics a towel wrap after a bath, something they already tolerate, so it feels familiar instead of threatening.

A pullover hoodie made from thin cotton jersey with a front kangaroo pocket works best in my experience - I treat it like a conditional statement: if the cat can back into the garment without me lifting their legs, then acceptance equals true. The key is letting them choose to step in, so I lay the hoodie flat and lure them with a treat placed right in the middle, then gently guide their front paws through the armholes one at a time while they're focused on eating.
