I completely understand wanting to keep that gorgeous coat looking its best without it becoming a chore. For a Maine Coon, I'd recommend brushing at least 3-4 times a week, and daily during heavy shedding seasons in spring and fall. Their thick, water-resistant fur mats easily, especially around the mane, belly, and britches, so regular sessions with a stainless steel comb or slicker brush make a huge difference in keeping everything tidy and comfortable.

Getting into a good brushing rhythm is pure joy with these fluffy giants - I find that three to four times a week keeps that magnificent mane looking like a lion's dream and prevents those sneaky mats from forming behind the ears and under the belly. During the seasonal coat blows in spring and fall, I bump it up to daily sessions because that soft undercoat sheds like crazy and tangles faster than you'd believe.

Brushing three to four times a week is the sweet spot for keeping that glorious fur from turning into a matted disaster, but don't be surprised if you need to ramp it up to daily sessions during spring and fall when they shed like crazy. I always keep a slicker brush handy and make it part of our cuddle time-my big fluffball thinks it's a massage, and I get to avoid finding tumbleweeds of fur under the couch.

Treat brushing like an ongoing conversation rather than a chore - I brush mine every other day as a rule, but I flip it to daily during shedding season because that undercoat is basically a second cat trying to escape. Skip the rigid schedules and instead let the cat tell you when it's time by checking for loose tufts around the britches and behind the elbows.
