Try piling on extra blankets and turning up the thermostat instead. A Sphynx knows what it needs better than any sweater designer - if it's fighting the clothes, it's probably not that cold. Let it burrow into your bed or a heated pad, that's the real solution.

Start with a shorter acclimation period-just a few minutes at a time, paired with treats, to build positive associations. Some Sphynx simply hate the feeling of fabric against their skin, and forcing it can stress them out. You might try a lighter, softer material like fleece, and let them sniff it first. Every cat is different, so if yours still fights it, consider warming up the room or offering a heated bed instead-clothing isn’t essential for all of them.

Check if the sweater fits properly - a too-tight neck or armholes can cause irritation. Use a distraction technique like a feather wand or laser toy during the first few attempts to redirect focus. If the refusal continues, explore alternative warmth like a heated cat bed or a small space heater on low setting.

Forcing a sweater on a cat that clearly hates it can actually cause stress and anxiety, which might lead to hiding or aggression. I'd recommend letting the cat set the pace - put the sweater near their favorite sleeping spot for a few days so they get used to the scent and texture, then try draping it loosely over them for just a second while giving a treat. If they still freak out, don't push it; some Sphynx cats just have sensitive skin and do better with a heated bed or a warm blanket instead.
