First, I need to clarify a bit - is your British Shorthair ignoring the post completely, or only using it occasionally? For a cat that won't touch it, move the post directly in front of its favorite sleeping spot or right next to the couch arm or door frame it's already scratching. Cats often ignore posts that are tucked away in corners or rooms they rarely visit, so placing it right where they naturally stretch and claw makes all the difference.

Move it right next to their food bowl or water station - cats naturally scratch near where they eat to mark territory. I’ve done this with my own stubborn cat, and it worked like a charm because they associate that spot with security and routine. Just make sure the post is stable and tall enough for a full stretch, or they’ll keep ignoring it for your sofa leg.
