From my research on feline behavior, interactive wand toys with feathers or small attachments are most effective because they mimic prey movement, encouraging your British Shorthair to leap and chase. Laser pointers also work well for short bursts, but they need to end with a physical toy to catch, as the lack of a tangible reward can frustrate them. I’ve found that puzzle feeders that require batting or pawing to release treats double as play and exercise, blending mental stimulation with physical motion.

Automated laser pointers mounted on a timer get mine running around the room without me having to hold anything. Combine that with a crinkle ball tunnel for them to dart through, and they'll burn off energy pretty fast.

Motion-activated toys work wonders in my tiny apartment - a robotic mouse that zips across the floor gets my cat sprinting from the couch to the kitchen without me lifting a finger. I also swear by a simple cardboard box with holes cut out and a feather on a string dangling inside; it forces them to swat and pounce in place, saving space while keeping them active.

Interactive puzzle balls with treats inside are a fantastic way to get them moving-mine will chase one across the living room for ages, nudging it under furniture just to hear the kibble rattle. Have you tried a fishing pole-style wand with a crinkly mouse at the end? That slow, teasing drag really makes them pounce and sprint, turning playtime into a mini workout.

I’ve had the best luck with a simple crinkle tunnel and a feather wand combo-my British Shorthair will zoom through that tunnel like a little furry torpedo, popping out to swat at the feathers. Those treat-dispensing balls that wobble when batted are also gold for getting them to shuffle around the floor, turning lazy stretches into actual movement without me having to entertain them every second.
