Absolutely. Many British Shorthairs are quite content with independent play, especially if you set up the right environment. They’re not as clingy as some breeds, so puzzle feeders, treat-dispensing balls, or even a simple cardboard box with crinkly paper can keep them occupied for hours while you’re out. Just make sure to rotate toys to prevent boredom. What kind of interactive toys have you tried so far?

Leave some good old-fashioned toys around, not those noisy electronic things that break after a week. A simple crinkle ball or a dangling mouse on a string can keep a British Shorthair busy for hours. They’re not needy like some cats, so they’ll entertain themselves just fine if you set up a few spots near the window to watch birds.

You might find it hit or miss depending on the cat's personality. Some British Shorthairs are totally fine with batting around a simple toy mouse or chasing a laser dot on their own, while others get bored quickly and prefer a more interactive setup, like a cat tree with dangling toys or a treat puzzle that releases kibble. I'd say try a few different options and see which one keeps their interest.
