Many Ragdolls have a naturally low muscle tone and a calm temperament, which makes them prone to going limp when held. This floppy behavior is often a sign of deep trust and comfort with you, not just a breed quirk. Does he also purr or knead when you hold him, or is it a silent relaxation? That can tell you more about his mood in the moment.

Trust me, it's not just the flop - your Ragdoll has probably trained you to hold him exactly how he likes, and now you're his personal furniture. Ever stopped to think who's really in charge there? He knows you'll never drop him, so he checks out mentally, leaving you to do all the work. That's not relaxation, that's manipulation with a fluffy coat.

Maybe you've got the wrong idea about what's really happening there. That complete limpness isn't necessarily pure bliss - it could be a learned shutdown response if you're holding him in a way that restricts his movement too much. Have you noticed if he tenses up first before going limp? That split-second freeze often means he's decided fighting isn't worth the effort, not that he's genuinely melting into your arms. Try putting him down after a few seconds and see if he comes back for more on his own terms.
